I traded a 2004 Silverado Z71 in for a 2007 Silverado Classic LT. My 04 had the 295hp 5.3L Vortec and a "T" as the 8th number in the VIN(the numeral that will tell you what motor you have). I looked at the VIN of my new truck and the 8th numeral is "Z". I think that "Z" is the code for the High Output(310hp and aluminum block) 5.3L Vortec. I looked at the sticker and it only says "5.3L Flex-Fuel Vortec V-8". The guys at the dealer weren't sure about whether or not I had the HO Vortec, but they told me that I should research what an 8th digit of Z means. They told me for sure that I can run on Gas, E85, or any mix of the two..... that's kinda cool. What the hell does "Z" mean for the 07's? Do I have 295hp or 310? Thanks!

I think you most likely have the cast iron Vortec 295hp truck engine. If you want to be sure.. Take a magnet and see if it will stick to your block.. yes = cast iron.. no = aluminum.. I think most of the truck engines are cast iron.

I've got an '06 Silverado.... "Z" is 8th VIN digit. I have the 300hp 5.3 liter V8. It has the flex fuel option,,, E85 or gas.

Why not check with GM the number is right in your owners manual or ask you car dealer to call the factory rep for your area they should at least do that for a costumer!!!!!!
