martina hingis is not dominating the game the way she once did is this because the game is a lot stronger now than it was when she was dominating or is it because shes not as good as she used to be?

She's still good, but the game's changed. My wife always said she retired because she was scared of the Williams sisters and wanted to go out on top. She may win a major and will probably get back into the top 5, but she'll never be the dominant force she once was. Mauresmo, Henin-Hardenne & Sharapova are all superior to her.

Hingis was out last year with an injury that required surgery. I think she made a lot of progress this year. She beat Davenport (who is now gone--baby), and even came close to beating Sharapova a few times. She's really not getting beat in straight sets as much, but I'd wait another year before I would count her out. She's just getting back into the groove, and she's getting better. I don't think she's over-the-hill just yet. She's in her 20's, remember she was kicking butt in her teens and that was just a few years ago. She's a fighter, too. Doesn't like to quit.

Hey give the women some respect! She was nr1 in the world at 16! That is huge and even if she never wins another title she'll still be a great.

Take into consideration that she played no competitive tennis for 3 years, has not got the power like EVERYONE else in the top10, but is still ranked nr7 in the world...that is amazing...

I reckon that if she could do that in 1year back on the tour... what can hse do in another 2or 3 years... A grand slam or two for sure!

Coming back from her injury definitely slowed her down some. The players continue to get younger and Hingis continues to get older. She is really good in doubles as she won a grand slam doubles championship partnering with Anna Kournikova several years ago.

The tall blonde Russian--Maria Sharapova--is on fire.
Hingis is just not as good as she used to be. But because others are much stronger, that weakens her status and domination as well.

The players is constantly learning from their predecessors and the game is in constant evolution. That is why the former greats wouldn't stand a chance against the current top players
