More often than not, it's because one has put oneself in that predicament. Although, one can always blame it on God/religion...we were given life-we should make the best out of all situations. I do believe, however, the cause is due to our intelligence or the lack there of...we often find ourselves in situations (knowingly/unknowingly) which were derived by wise/unwise decisions from the past......

When you're stressed about one thing, you're more likely to be distracted from another, leading to more mistakes, more things forgotten, more stress. One thing stresses you out, chances are more things will come that will just build on that stress. A little bit of rain causes that downpour.

A small shower can be refreshing and nice. In a downpour you get wet even with an umbrella. The downpour gets more notice and reaction because you're soaked and shivering.
