How did I get a BFP at 12 DPO using FMU, but then a BFN at 14 DPO also using FMU?

I have been testing every morning with FMU since 10 DPO. I finally got a fairly dark BFP at 12 DPO and was soooo excited! Then I took a test this morning, 14 DPO, and it was BFN! How can this be??

14 DPO is certainly not too early to test so you should be able to depend on the result you get on the Home Pregnancy Test (HPT). Even so, a blood test is much more reliable.

A few things could have caused the negative result two days after your positive result:

1. The 2nd test might have been defective (unlikely)
2. The pregnancy hormone (HCG) in your urine might not be concentrated enough to register a positive result.
3. The HCG in your urine might legitimately be low because it's dropping (the pregnancy is failing).

It's unlikely that the first result was an error. HPT's pick up HCG and nothing produces HCG except pregnancy (and certain incredibly rare cancers). My best guess is that an embryo implanted and thrived long enough to produce some HCG then the pregnancy failed. It's very common and it doesn't mean you'll not have a healthy pregnancy eventually.

your Big Fat Neg could be a false result, or you may have been one of the 25% of m/c that happen but most don't know cause they weren't testing everyday like you are. You may want to call the dr to get a beta test done. But try again tomorrow. good luck for a sticky chicky

Okay, I got the DPO but I don't understand the rest. I get that it was negative. I just don' t know what the abbreviations are.

your testing too soon stop testing til your late all your doing is getting your hopes up and wasting money

bfn= big fat negative
bfp= big fat positive
dpo=days past ovulation
fmu= first morning urine
