Actually, sending trash into space can be disasterous. Already we have thousand and thousands of pieces of space junk floatin in space just outside our atmosphere. Even the smallest piece of junk can prove to be deadly if a rocket accidently hits it as it is leaving or entering the atmosphere. Much better that we learn to be responsible stewards of our space here on earth and emphasize recycling, reusing, and reducing our use,

We already have a ton of garbage in space from all the ship launches. Where do you think all that stuff that comes off the ship as it blasts into space goes. Also not to mention the human waste ejected from the space station and ships in orbit. We also have a ton of useless satellites in orbit. We are wasteful people. Too much garbage everywhere.

You really expect "gov. officials" to bother with your trash? They're to busy in Perkland with the lobbyists to care. Reality Check to Earthlings.....There are 6.5 BILLION people on this planet producing more garbage every day. We are spinning around in space with no where else to go and we keep trashing the environment that gives us life? How dumb are we?

Launching garbage into space sounds like an easy solution, but there are some serious issues that make it infeasible.
1. Humans, especially ones in developed countries, generate a lot of garbage. Think about how much trash just you generate each week - a bag or two, perhaps. Now multiply that by every other person in the developed world. Now factor in every company and business and their trash production - restaurants, factories, shops, and offices. That's a lot of trash.
2. Launching things into space is expensive. Using rockets to launch satellites might cost $10,000 per pound of satellite. If you generate 2 pounds of garbage a week, it will cost the taxpayers $1,000,000 per year just to launch your annual 100 pounds of trash into space. I don't think taxpayers want to pay an extra million dollars per year just for each individual's trash disposal. If all 300 million Americans generated only 100 pounds of trash per year (and American businesses and farm didn't generate any), that would still be 30 billion pounds of trash. Not to mention that the amount of fuel to launch all that trash might cause other pollution problems on earth.
3. Launching things into space isn't guaranteed to reach space. Rockets do fail to reach orbit on occasion. If a rocket carries 1 ton (2,000 lbs) of trash, and one rocket out of every 10,000 crashes, or blows up on the launch pad, every year, it would be 1,500 rocket crashes each year as a hazard of launching just American trash. Do we really want our trash getting spread around in random places?
4. Once the trash is in space, what happens to it next? If it is too close to earth, it might eventually fall back to earth, and burn up.. mostly. Some of the chemicals in trash might not be healthy to burn up in our atmosphere. Some of the material might not be safe to have land in our water. Putting all that trash in space might also cause hazards to our other space exploration goals - our satellites and space shuttles would now be at risk from being hit by trash.
Putting trash into space might seem like we are getting rid of it -- but really it would just be causing more problems - both from the high cost, and from the dangers of putting trash in our skies.
Recycling can help reduce the amount of trash that is generated.

(a) It is very expensive to put anything in orbit.
It is even more expensive to launch it into outer space.
(b) If the rocket fizzles out, it will burn up in the atmosphere and we will all have to breathe it.

because is cost billions to send up satellites, It would be cheaper to dump it in a volcano, but it would still pollute the air and ground water. Why don't we just quit being so wasteful.

They are afraid to tick E.T. off by throwing our trash in his back yard. He'd probably do more then throw it back at us.Besides who would want to look up to gaze at the stars and see trash littering the sky.

There is plenty of space on Earth for our trash. Plenty of space for many, many, many years. Don't worry about it.
