actually I would if she still wants to be part of the kids lives. It's wise to tell caring family. She may want to know, and hopefully she'll understamd why u are leaving. My mom left, and she talked to me and my twin about it before she did. I was happier after she left, and I'm glad she took our opinion in to consideration. We were 5 and told her to do what she thinks is right, and she promised us a pet when she moved in to her own house. have u told ur kids?

If you're going to an abuse shelter in no WAY should you call his mother first. Don't be a dingbat. Blood is thicker than water every day of the week. She will tell him exactly where you are and don't kid yourself about that. She may love you, but HE's her son. Get yourself and your kids to a safe place and keep your mouth shut about it.

Ff your having to leave your husband and go to an abuse shelter it sounds like you have bigger emotional issues to think about then calling your husbands mother and letter her know. its time to think of yourself for a change and focus on getting yourself well your mother in law is a big girl and will understand and if she doesn't it sounds like your haven't lost anything. God Bless you and take care of yourself

If she is a decent person and you care about her, then call her so she will not worry about you. But wait until you are already gone and in a safe place so that she does not try to influence your decision.

Leave his mom out of this. She would probably tell your husband and he should hear it from you first.

Please ensure that your kids would be safer. Its better to break the news through a third party, as your husband is abusive.
