I am a server, and I'll just say, I don't mind if there is a mess to clean up afterwards. I usually am the one who sweeps while the bussers clean the table... but it only takes a few seconds to sweep it up- not bad at all. I have a 14 month old son of my own, so I know it's a lot of work just going out- and keeping your baby occupied while you can eat... don't stress over it. When your baby gets of age to where you know they shouldn't be dropping food on the floor, you can teach them... but for now, don't worry about it seriously. For servers who complain... they might not have kids... but honestly, I don't really see servers complaining- it's just part of the job... some adults are really messy themselves! lol So sometimes I see more food on the floor from adults than I do some children! haha
For myself, I will pick up things like coloring sheets and crayons so nobody trips on them, stuff like that... but you can't always pick up every piece of food.

The cartoons they show now are just mindlessly stupid! They show these cartoons repeatedly throughout the day. I don't know what is wrong with the state of America when it's OK to show a child a program that will rot his brain and not a program about some integrity, that will teach the child right from wrong and how important it is to stand up for what they believe in (like DBZ). Don't get me started on Nick. They are just as bad showing Sponge Bob 57 times a day and then throwing Teen Nick on in the evening. I'm not against Sponge Bob or Teen Nick, but give the people some variety!

If it is in an area where people will step on it then pick it up otherwise I leave a bigger tip. I used to be a server and I know it is their job to clean the floor anyways so extra mess is no different because they are still going to have to sweep the floor after you leave.

As a mom and a former waitress--
Wait until you've finishhed the meal and get up the big peices. No one expects you to be picking up 5000 grains of rice! LOL
If you're child is old enough, have him/her crawl down under the table and clean up his own mess after the meal. My son is almost 3 and he knows when he drops food, at home or out, that he has to pick it up.
If for some reason you can't pick it up cause you're ina hurry, have afussy infant or spilled somethin like lots of rice, soup, ice cream, spaghetti ect, leave alarger tip.
PS a AVERAGE tip is 15% for a mess I usually leave 20-25% (depending ont he server and the mess)

I am 18 weeks pregnant and a waitress. I would say clean up after your baby before you leave. I know people see it as the waitresses job, but it really is disrespctful and it makes you look bad when you up and leave the place in shambles. If you refuse to clean up, at least leave a big tip because someone has to clean up an out of the ordinary mess. :)

I have two teens and toddler twins, so if I picked up everything the toddlers ditch I would not get to eat. That's part of my treat in eating out. I pick up enough stuff off my own floor all day, so I do not pick stuff up off the restaurant floor. I do attempt to clean up the table, as best I can, so it is easier to bus.

If someone else is going to step on it, or kick it around, pick it up. Otherwise just leave a larger tip and let the bus staff clean it up with a vacuum or broom at the end.
Btw are we talking about your kid? or someone elses?

I usually left it on the floor until I was done with dinner. If I kept picking it up, she (my baby) would think I was playing a game and keep dropping the food.
When I was done I would pick up the worse of it and let the staff clean the rest.

If it's your baby, pick up after him or her. It's just common courtesy. Put yourself in the poor waitresses shoes. She probably is about 23 or less and has no kids. Would you want to clean up after someone elses kid?

Well, I'm assuming if a kid is dropping stuff on the floor, it's not being given back to him/her. I mean, I wouldn't feed my kid stuff from the floor. If my kid dropped something solid like a piece of pizza or a burger, I'd pick it up...if they dropped something like a drink or applesauce, I'd let the restaurant take care of it....
