I came home today to a wrapped 'present' in a gift bag, with a computer printed note saying 'spread some Christmas cheer' and if i keep these, please get two more and place them on someone elses door steps, and hang this note in your window so no one drops something off on our step again.
Sure, sounds like a nice idea... right?
Doesnt say who its from. And I have no idea, since we know no one around here, its a new neighborhood and everyone is new.
Am I wrong to be creeped out by this? I dont even want to touch it. I highly doubt its anything harmful, but in this day and age WHO KNOWS whats in there..
What do I do with it? Its still on the step.. I kind of hope someone steals it so I dont have to deal with it.. ha ha.
What would you do?

I don't know if its creepy but the note was an odd request.
It was nice of someone to make a random act of kindness, but to then ask someone else to spend money to do it too is wierd. Its no longer a random act of kindness but an obligation. Its like spreading the comercialism of Christmas in the form of a chain letter.

Don't be too freaked out about it. Especially if you live in a relatively safe neighborhood. I agree with everyone who says to ask a neighbor about it. Whatever the case, I probably wouldn't put the note in my window, just in case it was some way for a burglar to make some kind of note.

Put on some gloves, or use a plastic bag to protect your hands, and put it in the garbage and don't worry about it, it is probably just someone's sick idea of a joke. Don't bother to open it, or give any credence to the note, just bin it and forget it. The person who left it's sole purpose was to shake you up and if you allow that, you are letting the little creeps in the world win. Don't let them!!!!!

Its not really creepy but its not scary either. Enjoy the gift. It dosn't mean you are obligated to buy your neighborhood gifts. I think unless someone in your neighborhood is alone and needy just smiling and saying hello or Merry Christmas is enough of a random act of kindness.

I would not worry about it, and it is not actually "creepy". They do that in the area that I am in "Texan suburbia", for Halloween, same thing, a goodie bag, and a ghost picture, if you have been "tagged" by the goodie ghost, you put the picture in your window, so you don't get the goodies twice. It is a way neighbors spread "cheer", I would think they would do it to folks they know. If you do not want to participate, don't, but please do not be afraid, they do not mean you any harm. Merry Christmas.

This is fun tradition that some neighborhoods do. Perhaps someone in your neighborhood is trying to start a new tradition. It can be fun, but it can also be a pain to have to go out and get the gifts that go in the bag.

i wager what Inasne_mad_maink (the first answerer) stated is real. She would reason a lot worry. tell your brother to go away all her promises at her door stuff, with a label announcing no longer to come again and that you're not any further even her buddy. If she comes decrease back again, ask him to take her to some fairly position and communicate fairly out that they are carried out and to get out of his lifestyles. Even after this if she pops up, then loopy issues would ensue and also you may contain the police.

It sounds like chain mail has moved up a step. I hate chain mail, and I certainly don't want it showing up on my doorstep! If you don't want to open it, you could always just sit it on someone else's step, but it does sound harmless. Perhaps it's just a neighbor's way of passing anonymous presents?

I would ask a neighbor if this is a neighborhood tradition. If not, then ask the police to make a quiet stop by to check it for you. If it is really just a random gift of kindness that asks you to spread random gifts of kindness then it is really cool. If it is not, let the police handle it.
