It's really bad in the US, but no one recognizes it because they're sneaky bastards.

Any government "promotes" stories on how well they are doing and tries to control any negative stories. In the US, we think this is a modern event but it isn't.

Back during the Civil War (1860's) the famous President Abe Lincoln had newspapers shut down that did stories again him and how badly the civil war was going.

And during Revolutionary Times (1770--1790), the famous leader (and future President) Thomas Jefferson admitted to paying a writer to plant stories in newspapers saying that the current President Adams was a crook and an idiot.

When Nixon was President there was a lot of anti-Vietnam War news stories and protests. His Vice President, Spiro Agnew, was sent out on speaking engagements across the country in which he talked about how bad the press was.

When some Republican employees were caught breaking and entering at the Watergate Hotel's offices for the Democratic Party, the press attacked Nixon - saying he was a crook & dishonest. (Nixon had attempted to cover up the break-in.) Since then, Americans have less trust in their government.

By the press in America having bad stories on China, we are spotlighting those issues - we are implying the US is better because we do not do that.

China, hands down. You did say propaganda, not TV commercials. And Fox news is a lousy example -- they admit they're biased.
