You don't want to get the epidural too soon. It will wear off before the real pain happens. When getting induced your contractions should start really soon but they are nothing compared to what will come. I got induced at 6 am and had contractions 2 minutes apart for 16 hours before they finally got hard enough to make me dialate. The doctor can give you something to take the edge off the contractions so just make sure you let them know you want an epidural from the moment you get there so that when your ready they will give it to you.

Most doc's don't like epidurals until you are around 4cm dilated. If you get an epidural to early it can slow down your labor.
