Where are there practical applications of philosophy aside from politicians.

Maybe lawyers or judges?

Or even editorialists?

Paul: philosophy is about aesthetics, ethics, metaphysics, politics and epistemology. You can squeaze God somewhere into metaphysics if you'd like, but it's way more complicated than you seem to think. If you've ever taken a Philosophy 101 class, you'd know what the hell you're talking about. I'd say barely 5% of philosophy has to do with God.

And this question bluntly put means, can you somehow make a career out of philosophy?

Can you trade philosophy for money?
You could write books on philosophy.
But most students of philosophy end up working somewhere else. When it comes downright to it, philosophy is mostly the study of rhetoric, despite Plato's objection. (I know I came out of the department of philosophy as an heretic).

As such, a student of philosophy is training for any profession in which language is used to either express ideas, or persuade. I worked as a teacher after graduation. I now work in the news media.

You see philosophy is one of these general things on the earth that have a practical purpose that is beyond the obvious. In mathematics or science for instance one can very clearly see it's purpose and benifits. However philosophy is like breathing. We do it, we must have it, if we don't something bad happens but we hardly notice it. Philosophy is something we, as humans with intelligent minds naturally think. We do this for two reasons.
One, so within ourselves we know where we stand in relationship with the rest of creation. Two, we find out and investigate how to treat others and for ourselves we have the moral strenght to do what is right. We must have it because if we didn't consider how to treat others and run complex societies, there would be chaos, violence and a whole lot of bad things. In fact without the philosophy to treat others and to relate to a complex group of people we would never have gotten out of the caves. And if we don't do it, then, one, no one would be considering anyone else, can you imagine that?, and two, we couldn't negotiate with a whole lot of others to be able to run a mutually benificial complex and comfortable society. And we hardly ever notice.
You see philosophy is not the high faluting nonesense that some people come up with. It is the practical everyday moral and ethical relationship with other people and rest of creation. Therefore it's uses are of use to :
POLITICIANS
JUDGES
RELIGIOUS PEOPLE
LAWYERS
ADMINISTATORS OF ANY KIND
GENERALS
COUNCILLERS
OFFICE HOLDERS
NEGOTIATORS OF ANY KIND
ANYONE DEALING WITH THE FATE OF OTHER PEOPLE
AND BECAUSE OF INTELLIGENCE: HUMANITY AS A WHOLE

You see I mentioned generals. This is probably the last person whom you would expect to be concerned with such things. However in warfare, philosophy can decide how you deal with enemies and allies alike. Also in steeling you and you people and soldiers onward to victory. I will give you an example. In ancient Rome rape was not a civil crime until the reign of Constantine. But it was a military crime. (The penalty being cutting of the nose and one third of the property to the woman) The Romans realised that if you rape a conquered people's women, you will have a lot of trouble. They avoided a hell of a lot of trouble and had a stable empire. The Mongols had a very stable empire too. They enforced the peace with a philosophy of religious tolerance and protection of all those who submitted to their rule. It was said of the Mongol empire that a virgin with a bag of gold upon her head could walk from one end of the Mongol empire to the other with both intact. And this pretty much literally true.
When you have a thing that is so useful in war itself and so useful to help hold together two of the mightiest empires in history-you have a very useful thing in deed.

Practical Applicatons of Philosophy come from living life. Then applying what you learn and give advice to the less fortunate who can`t comprehend life in general. Lawyers and Judges don`t exist in this equation.

You can definitely make a direct career in philosophy. But more than that we have a whole gamut of practical applications of philosophy in almost all study disciplines.

Yes, lawyers. They take lots of ethics and logic courses so that they can be sure to do the exact opposite.

You can always teach it too, if you like working for chump change.

Mostly though it is a useful tool for everything else you do.

Philosophy is really for additional proof or disproof of God's existence. So far neither side has won but both claim victory and they can go through their verbal arguments to "prove" it. So Id rather read my Bible.
