The above are all correct, but none have mentioned one large contributor. Non-brown eyes are almost (ALMOST) exclusively a European trait. Add to that the un bridled birthrates throughout Asia, Africa, South America, and the states along the USA's southern border and well the reason should be obvious. I could go on, but I'm sure I would make someone angry. Enjoy the blue eyes while you can.

Brown eyes are the most common because brown eyes have a dominant gene. If you do a Punnet's square for a blue eyed mom and brown eyed dad, you will see. If the dad has Bb (1 brown eye gene and 1 blue) and the mom has bb (2 blue eye genes). Draw a square and you will find that the child would have a 50% chance of getting just 1 of those B (brown eye) genes, which would make the kid have brown eyes. If the dad had 2 brown eye genes (BB), you will find that the kid would have brown eyes 100% of the time. This is because B (brown) dominates or overrides b (blue). This also works if you use green in place of blue. I hope you aren't too confused.

its a matter of which alleles are dominant during meiosis. it also has a lot to do with heredity.. if we were not as segregated as we are today, then you would be able to tell where a person was from by eye color (i.e. Scandanavians having blonde hair and blue eyes) but since here in america, we are so diverse, the gene for brown eyes has been the most prominant amongst the other genes, hence it being the dominant gene rather than the recessive

Darker colored traits tend to be more dominant than those of lighter colors. If an allele is dominant it will mask the recessive one, thus resulting in more brown eyed people.
