I just don't know if it is better to have them go to bed early on the Eve and be rested for Santa coming or just have the whole Christmas Day for our little family and enjoy everything!

We only have my parents to celebrate with so I don't know if we should on Christmas Eve and then just have Christmas Day be with the kids opening from Santa and then just being by ourselves and not going anywhere! I want to stick with a tradition but every year something changes! My Dad has cancer and this year is just different!

We don't see any extended family members because both of our families are sadly highly dysfunctional. My inlaws are insane and treat me like crap, my sisters and I can't be in the same room without someone walking out offended and my parents (THANK GOD) are out of state and they don't even attempt to visit us ever.

We concentrate on getting the kids excited for Xmas morning. We open up any presents that are sent to us from inlaws etc on Christmas Eve and make sure the kids get to bed early so they will go to sleep at a decent hour. Then my husband and I sneak down the stairs with bagfuls of gifts and quietly put them under the tree. We eat the cookies the kids put out and drink some of the soda or whatever the kids put out for Santa (he gets tired of milk all of the time you know) and we get as much sleep as we can get away with before the kids insist we get up and go see what Santa brought for Xmas...the rest of the day is spent undoing wire ties on toys, picking up wrapping paper, playing with toys and cooking Xmas dinner...

Both. We go to my parents house on Christmas Eve and have dinner and open presnets. That night I go home get my kids into bed. My husband and I then put presents under the tree snack on the cookies, put up the carrots and hat not. Then the next morning My children open their presnets. Then we go to his parents house for Christmas dinner and presents.

Christmas is hard for me. I miss my family during this time. My father died 2 days after christmas one year so this is about his death that I think. It is not happy for everyone especially someone like me who lost a parent to suicide during the christmas season.
