Or should I just accept that he is 60 now and too old to change?

Let me add that the change would improve his ability (which is almost nonexistent) to interact with me. And I am actually a social worker.

If he changes it should be because HE wants to, not because YOU want him to.

You may think that you know of a way to improve your father, but you probably don't. First of all, if he needs serious help, only a trained professional, such as a psychologist, psychiatrist, or social worker, can treat him correctly. Secondly, just because he's 60 years old doesn't mean he cannot change. However, change usually comes about when the person himself/herself wants the change to come about, not when others want change.

The best way to help your father is to help him connect with his Maker, Creator also known as Krishna, Allah, Jehovah, Vishnu, etc. In the Vedas it is explained that what ever one thinks of at the time of death they are sure to attain in their next life. So what is the most important thing is if one thinks of God at the time of death they never come back to the material world again where there is birth, death, old age and diseases. The Supreme Spiritual Abode is full of bliss, eternality, and supreme knowledge. No one dies there and one has a spiritual beautiful eternal body. Go to krishnaculture. Read Bhagavad Gita as it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhupada. Every Psychologist should read this Every human being should read this and know the actual meaning of life.

You should just accept it. You know what will help him, but he will only change if he comes to know it, and generally telling someone what they need to change never works. If he hasn't figured it out in 60 years, more than likely, he won't.

No one is too old to change.

However, HE has to *want* to change, and it has to be for his reasons.
