There are a few different citation styles. The most common are MLA and APA. The assignment should tell you which style to use, or you'll have to ask the professor. If the assignment is for an English class it's probably going to be the MLA style.

If you mention the author's name in your sentence, you quote the line, close the quotation marks, put a space, open parenthesis, enter the page number, close parenthesis, then put the period to end your sentence.

If you do not mention the author's name in your sentence, you quote the line, close the quotation marks, put a space, open parenthesis, type the author's last name, put a space, enter the page number, close parenthesis, then put the period to end your sentence.

There are many ways to cite a sentence. It depends on what kind of document it is, where the sentence comes from, etc. The standard is MLA format. Try this link for examples: http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/557/01/

'cite' means give the source of where the sentence comes from. Just list the book or web site where you found it. (There are different approved styles for doing this but the main thing is to direct people to your source)
