I wrote this in october this year, a couple of days before my 17th birthday. It's about a failed relationship even though I based it on a false idea. I haven't been in a relationship for a while but when I looked at the page this poem was written and turns out that was what it was about. I also wrote this on another site under the name RoadandtheRadio. Do I have a furute as a writer?

Wildwood Flower

Beneath night I confide,
On sheets thin to hold ink,
Scrawled in minute stains.
Neglected wildwood flower,
Pale petals drawn into center,
Not knowing how long it lay,
Dying on torn sketchbook page,
Or when it first bloomed bright.

Beneath night I confide,
On mind chained, weighed down.
The cold air touching my lungs,
Freezing an out stretched hand,
Dropped into life’s empty pocket.
Blue lips whisper an icicle apology,
Swept into wind’s equal wail echo.
Alone waits I, pale wildwood flower.

I thought this was a well thought out poem. The imagery is strong, and it flows well. If you're thinking of writing poetry as a way to earn money writing, understand that it's a very difficult market.

Yet, if you begin contributing now to poetry publications and continue working on your skill, based on this poem, you definitely seem to have the knack for writing. I believe that if you feel you are a writer and you write on a regular basis - then you ARE a writer. It's up to you to make things happen.

Best Wishes!!

It's a nice poem with good imagery, but no one can tell you based on just one poem if you would make it as a writer. As a poet, possibly. As a writer, no.

Writing takes discipline and practice. The problem is even with talent, discipline and practice there is no tangible financial gain. Less than 3% of writers make a living through writing. That includes journalists, poets, romance writers, technical writers, and everyone else.

If you want to become a real writer, go to college and study. If you want to just be a poet, keep writing and pick up a copy of Poet's Market. It will tell you where to submit your poems and how. You can always pick up a little easy money doing that, just not a lot of it.
