First, congratulations on being a generous person, someone willing to help others in whatever way you can.I

I've given blood frequently in the past. (I've since developed a number of health problems, none of them having to do with having given blood, and I have to take meds daily. That make me ineligible to give blood.) I've also done volunteer work at blood donor clinics frequently in the past. I've seen similar reactions.

It's mainly a matter of nerves, nothing more and nothing less. You can use relaxation techniques while you are givng blood and while you are resting afterwards. It should help greatly.

In the meantime, don't take it that seriously, because the fact that this happened is almost certainly not serious. And the staff and volunteers see this frequently and are prepared for such reactions. Also, they do have a responsibility to you to make certain that you are OK to leave and go about the rest of your day. As well, they have an obligation to their insurance carrier to make certain of the same.

Now, when you are again eligible to give blood, try it again. This time you will have your answers and your possible preventive measures. If it happens again, though, understand that you are not a wimp. It's something that's not for everyone, and there are lots of other ways to help people.

as they say on TV "some people faint at the sight of blood". That's basically what you did. You passed out. Do you weigh at least 110 lbs? Were you hungry when you gave blood? Those things could have made you weaker than others and cause you to faint. When you faint your blood pressure drops, you turn pale,
but very soon you get better. It is not uncommon when giving blood for this to happen. Don't give blood again. You are a person who fainted at the "giving" of blood, a spell triggered by giving blood.

You were probably dehydrated to begin with and your system couldn't handle the volume loss. Did you have the Orange Juice they give you? Which also has sugar!
So dehydration/volume loss and/or hypoglycemia.
Don't worry about it, when you're young and healthy your body can get back into balance pretty quickly.
