I reded the windows on my Dell with XP and now when it boots it has a black screen with 2 Microsoft Windows Xp choices. The tab is on the first and if I do nothing is counts from 20 and then loads normally. If i scroll to second one and enter it would work and I scroll back to one and hit enter then it loads.

If, I understand correctly you may have a Dual Boot setup. I have a computer I play with and have Windows 98 and Windows 2000 as a Dual Boot. Programs that run in Windows 98 can still be used and I can install new things to Windows 2000. Mine will Boot to 2000 if I do nothing and I can select 98 when I want to use it.

You may have two operating systems in your HDD. You may remove the selection by changing the advanced settings.

Right click My Computer and select Properties
Select Advanced tab
Under Start up and Recovery click on Settings

Here you can set the options as you like...

This is much the same with Windows Vista Betas, you will have an additional option at start up. This function is for convenience and may have resulted when you did not completely wipe your hard drive when you re-installed Windows.

It's called a boot menu. Check out the hidden file Boot.ini in the root of your system drive (probably c:\boot.ini). If you want to just decrease the amount of time you have to wait for it to load the default OS, just change the line timeout=30 to something like timeout=1. Otherwise, don't touch it without don't more research, it can make your system un-bootable.
