No they should not be allowed to vote.

A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse form the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.

prisoners have their right to vote, (along with many other rights) taken away because they have committed crimes. Not because they recieve a benefit from tax payer money. When you get old and retire, you will recieve social security, does that mean that then you should should be stripped of your voting right? Why not stop there, maybe you should also lose your right to freely walk the streets, or visit with family without a guard watching your every move. And maybe you should be subject to random tossings of your personal property in search of contraband.

What a ridiculous idea.

And while I am at it, the response that claimed most people on welfare become criminals is obviously the remarks of an idiot. My family recieved assistance more than once during my childhood and there are certainly no criminals here. In fact I am an engineer, my sister is a R.N. specializing in pediatrics, one of my brothers is a minister of youth and music for a world wide outreach ministry, and the other owns his own concrete business. We are all married with children, homes, friends and are all relatively well adjusted.

Do you truly believe that a "welfare recipient" is necessarily at fault for not being able to take care of themselves in EVERY CASE? I believe that a person who lives in this country should be able to find a job but it is not always possible for a person to do so. They are responsible for taking care of their families. Do you also believe that we should not assist them in doing so? What about their children? The welfare system that is in effect today is not the same as the one of 20 years ago. Most states do not allow people to sit at home and draw a wage for doing nothing for any length of time. I believe that if we found jobs for those people then they would willingly work and feel better about themselves and if we do not allow them the opportunity to vote then what are we teaching them about their worth as a human being? I am a Christian that has always worked at least two or three jobs. My wife and I have raised three children of our own and have taken in people that really needed help at different times. I do not believe that people are the same as "TRASH" to be treated in the manner that you spoke of. I have never been on any government assistance but I believe that if necessary, I would do so. Have a great Christmas and think about this again.
Thank you,

Yes, one has nothing to do with the other. There are huge amounts of people who lose jobs as a result of a company moving and those people need welfare help, they should have the right to vote.
We need to help others in need, what can be gained from taking the right to vote away from them?
