You should go to show your respect, but there are people that don't like going to funerals. I have to admit there are some that I didn't attend, but I went to the funeral home and signed the book and I always lay a rose in the casket.

If you are uncomfortable with attending funerals, or do not wish to go -- don't make any lame excuses -- just say out front that you Decline to Attend the Funeral of _____. No further information is needed.

going to a funeral to pay last respects isn't for everyone. You do what you need to do for yourself. If you don't feel like to could go, send a card to the family or whatever you need to do to get through this time.

Then don't go, and send a card with a nice handwritten note telling something nice about the person that passed away.
