I'm kind of angry that their "sport' and need for that kind of adrenalin rush cost them their lives, and left so many people behind picking up the pieces. There is adventure, and then there is foolhardy.

If you're talking about the Mt. Hood fatalities . . .

They were climbers but they hadn't climbed Mt. Hood before. The weather has killed many an experienced and skilled mountain climber. Had it not been for the weather, for all we know they may not have needed any rescueing and would have climbed the mountain safely. But they could neither go up or come down in total white-out, bitter cold storm conditions. So they did the smart thing, they built snow caves. The storm lasted for 4 or 5 days, I think. The snow caves didn't save them, unfortunately, and they most likely died of hypothermia. Last I heard two of the bodies were found, I don't know about the others.

No they are not idiots. mountaineering mountains is there pastime and when they have reached the right they experience pleased with themselves by way of the indisputable fact that is an success. not anybody that climbs mountains reaches the right and this would nicely be because they managed to get an ailment on the way up and had to end. i'm confident you've pastimes and are pleased with your self at circumstances.

I'm sad that they're dead, but you're right, they should have used common sense.
Who the heck would go on a mountain during a major snow storm, and then on the windy side of the mountain too?

crap happens. sometimes things in your environment change when you don't expect them to. sometimes climbers are injured because of negligence, for example not checking equipment or not paying attention. Anyone I've ever known that died climbing either didn't tell anyone where they were going, didn't pack for emergencies, or didn't check the equipment.
