Every couple of weeks I have to add antifreeze to my truck. It usually takes about 1/2 a gallon. I have a 2000 model silverado with a 4.8 engine. It has 113,000 miles on it. It is not leaking anywhere so I was afraid that it might be leaking through the head gasket. Is this possible with no other problems. It still runs alright. The only thing that I have noticed is that it is cold natured and will not idle when it is cold.

a radiator shop can pressure test the radiator and cap for ya. if no trouble there they can pull the plugs and see if anything there. have you checked the carpet on the passenger side for a heater core leak? they hide pretty good under floor mats. good luck.

Check your exhaust to see if it is very white and smells sweet, if it does the antifreeze is leaking through the head gasket and being burned by the engine. If you dont see any leaks on the ground, then the engine is burning it.

Could be head or intake manifold gaskets. You also could have a cracked head or block.

You need to take it to a garage for a compression check, cylinder leak test and coolant system pressure test.

That is a good indication that you do have a head gasket problem, that will get worse very soon.
