I've read all over the place that by my son's age he should be able to feed himself with a spoon.

I never knew this and really wasn't bothered by feeding him. Now, I'd like to give it a go.

How did you teach your children to use a spoon/fork? What advice do you have?

Repetition, repetition, repetition. I just kept putting the spoon in her hand and showing her the motions. Break out the drop cloths... this is going to get messy!

Give him food that doesnt need a spoon or fork, for the time being when he knows where the food must go, give him a baby spoon with the plastic on the end, maybe with some pudding on the end. this way it will stay on the spoon and he will want it to go into his mouth.

All you have to do is, put the spoon or fork in his hands, but you have to hold it with him so he will know that, that's how it goes. Now you are going to do this a few times with him until he feels that he can do it on his own. But he will start to do it, it just takes time. Just keep working with him, he will get it.

Give him the spoon and help direct him towards his mouth. Also, grab the camera, it'll be cute and photo worthy lol :-)

I agree with the first answer, be patient because your little one is discovering his own skill, like eating by himself is a new skill that he needs to master it for him to do by himself. And of course you need to include him on your table to everytime you eat, for him to see how you do it so he can mimik, remember that action speaks louder than words... So be patient, it takes time but it's worth it when he can do it by himself. Goodluck....
