Can you wake baby up if you try? If not, raise holy hell until someone listens to you. I'm NOT saying that something is wrong with your baby girl, but I had the same concerns with my second son and was told the same thing by my doc and the nurses at the hospital. Turned out my baby had a severe heart condition and had to be hospitalized for a while. Trust your instincts, this is your 4th baby and you know better than anyone.

Don't worry, Hun, your baby is perfectly normal. Newborns sleep at least 19 hours a day and only wake when they are hungry or need their diaper changed. When she is around 3 months old she will start being more alert. Being born is a tough job on a baby as well and she's just tuckered out right now. Pretty soon, if she hasn't started already, she'll have her days and nights confused and will be waking you in the middle of the night for a bottle and some cuddle time. Enjoy it, They grow up way to fast as I'm sure you know! Congrats on your baby

My granddaughter was born 12/4/06.
She sleeps like a log. She probably sleeps 22 hours a day. She gets up long enough to eat, burp, poop...and that's about it.
My daughter has to squeeze a quick bath in ...and we don't really see much of her.
She's healthy... happy baby...and content. Loud noises...nothing...she sleeps well.
Be greatful !! As long as she's eating, sleeping, pooping, and doctor says she's healthy...chances are..you just have a normal newborn.
My granddaughter wasn't due until the 17th...so we figure she's just catching up now.

I'm a midwife by profession and in my practice for 11years in Quezon City Health Department in the Philippines, it's pretty normal, all you need to do is to wake her up for feeding for about ever 3hours if bottle/formula feeding or every2hours for breastfeeding, likewise. The baby is not yet used that she is outside of your womb now, that she needs to eat by herself and other needs too!. Not unlike inside your womb everything depends she needs to grow is well supplied by your system.
Get alarm if the baby is not eating, have a fever and just sleeping, might have infection in her body, but since the doctor assures you that she is fine, so nothing to worry about.

Has this baby been checked for jaundice? If she has been to the pediatrician, she probably was....but that is something that can make baby VERY sleepy. Is this baby breastfed? breastfeeding is a bit harder for babies and can tire her out....its normally a good thing, she may just seem like she is always sleeping after a feed. If she is breastfed, a good trick to wake her up is to undress her, babies at that age HATE to be undressed, play with her feet, get her attention and make her stay awake to eat.

All baby's are different and you should be happy that your child is resting, while your child rest you should do so as well.
Some people say that the child cry to much I haven't heard anyone talk about the child is sleeping to much. Don't you think that if the child is resting that you can get other thing done.

Every child is different. My son refuses to sleep but my daughter will fall asleep as soon as her head hits the pillow. Be thankful that they like to sleep...however, if you are truely concern then go back to the pedatrician's office! If you feel like they are blowing you off...then get a second opinion...find another peditrician!

Don't worry, it's normal. My younger daughter is now 1 and when she was tiny she slept almost constantly, it seemed like. My advice? Enjoy it while you can, which I'm sure you already know, having a 7-year-old.

How often is she sleeping? I remember 20 hours of sleep a day the first few weeks for my first born.
