The other day I put my hand over a flashlight and it turned red, just like it's done since I was a little girl. I've always wanted to know why this happens so any info would be really appreciated...thanks!

I know the answer to this because my husband has sleep apnea, and his fingers are blue, not red, when he's having breathing problems. You're looking at the oxygen-rich blood!

Your body is not completely opaque, so some light makes it through. And because your insides are mostly red, what with all the blood in there.

These answers are just plain silly. Your body is diffusing the light. Plain and simple. Your insides are whatever color you are seeing. Done.

I believe because the light shines "through" our skin and reveils either the color of our blood or the color of our muscles.

It is because of all the red blood cells in your blood.
