Is this every month? or just this time? I suggest that you confide in your Mom, or another female relative.

Over the counter pain pills can help you to live your life normally during your period. If the cramps are worse than that, you should have a chat with your doctor.

There are several things you can use for period cramps. You can take Tylenol, Motrin (Ibuprofen), Midol, or Naproxen Sodium (sold as Aleve, or Naprosyn). For really bad cramping you can also use a heating pad on your belly. The heat helps the muscles of the uterus to relax.
While the dance class might be difficult if you are cramping that badly, sometimes exercise does help take the edge off it. I would suggest you go see your mom, as she can help you best. If you dance teacher is a women, tell her, she can also help you out. If all else fails, go draw a nice hot bath and have a soak. The heat in the water will help. If you take the medicine and then use a heating pad or hot bath, it will work faster for you. Just be sure you tell your mother, so she can help you in the future and be prepared for the next time.

Honey, I am 25 years old. I beg and pled for anything I can get to help me through my cramps. I have tried anti-inflamatory pills, muscle relaxors, and even pain killers; all prescribed by gyno of course. I have also tried every over the counter I could find. Most over the counter medicine is just caffine and asprin. Asprin does help to thin the blood to prevent clots. But, I have found that avoiding salt the entire week before your period really helps along with drinking over 64 oz of water a day (recommended daily intake for water). Also, sit ups! Yes, sit ups! When I would get my period I would not leave my bed for 2 days, the cramps were too much to bear. I would use a heating pad and eat lots of chocolate. Now, I am working out on those days and trying to eat lots of fruit and grains. WORKING!!! Try it, it does really work.

Believe it or not Hon, the whole process is for the good of your body - for this is your bodys' way of cleansing itself ... so even as uncomfortable as it has to be - within the timeframe it does ease.

Only you can know if you will be comfortable during the dance classes tho and I mean that in regard to your clothing etc. - actually the exercise will help some with the pain.

My own child has discovered that ibuprofan helps more with the pain and she uses the thermaguard pads (they have them for menstrual, back, hip pain)......you can wear these under your clothing and can last up to eight hours.
The warmth helps ease the pain while wearing them.

Speak to your mom or a female in your family and am sure they will be glad to help in any way.

Welcome to the beginning of womanhood!

Merry Christmas!!

the activity of dance class my actually help. If nothing else it will distract you. and if your serious about dance your going to have to learn how to cope. Talk to a parent about an over the counter pain reliever like aleve or motrin, but stay away from pamprin.. it will dehydrate you.
make sure you drink enough water and aftet this get enoucg calcium. try PMS.com for advice and a symptom tracker. good luck and Break a leg!

Dont go to dance, you can try but when you have period pains its because of your muscles cramping. so when you dance your muscles will cramp anyway. pain kills, I always take Nurofen, the red jelly like ones. they are the best you take them every 4 hours, you can buy them at any store. or if its like this every month go to the doctors and ask for the DEPPO. its a contreseptive injection that stops your periods for 3 months, I went on it when I was 13. not for sex, for my pain because it was that bad... no period and no pain for 3 months!

Umm take midol, and eat bananas, they have a lot of potassium, which helps cramps. Also you could try a heating pad. If you are cramping really badly, I would skip dance.

I'm 13, too! I get horrible cramps every time i get my period. I use Mitol and i use heating pads. When i get mine i swim it always makes me feel beter. I would think your dance classes would make you feel beter, but if they dont then i would'nt to them. I also went to my doctor and she gave me birthcontrol pills and now i only get my period 4 times a year so i dont have that much pain every month. Hope this helped you!

menstruation do really causes cramps in the abdomen.
it would be better to use painkillers but before that, you should have to first consult your doctor regarding side effects of the same. try not to use over-the-counter-medicine.
