Yes, overweight people definately have those types of problems. Excess weight (expecially in the breast and stomach area) causes stress to be placed on the lower back. "Active" is not enough to keep from being fat. She needs a healthy diet as well as exercise (not just walking or easy stretching either).

If she is always active and still overweight, she should get her thyriod checked out-assuming she doesn't eat junk food all day, in which case the exercise may not matter. Her back could be hurting if she is top heavy, that's very common. Being overweight can lead to all kinds of problems.

There could be many different reasons why she's overweight, her caloric intake is greater than her caloric burn from her activities, she could have a medical condition, she could be eating all the wrong foods... most overweight people may not know exactly why they're overweight maybe that adds to the frustration of why she's constantly complaining.

If she's your close friend just listen to her and try to support and understand her.

Yes, obesity is in fact connected to back pain. Being active isn't always enough; another of factors contribute to being overweight;
Eating habits? Physical Illness? Is her caloric intake more than how many calories she's burning?

Her back/stomach problems could be related to other issues besides her weight. If she is active then maybe her weight is due to a medical issue - like a thyroid problem. She should see a doctor and see if there is anything that could be done medically to help her.

They do have those problems because of the added stress on their joints and core section, but she needs to change the way she eats, because no matter how active you are, you cant stay fit if you eat bad.
