You do have a good heart, but boy, you were had. Do you know that beggars make more than people working for minimum wage. If she asks 100 people and 3 say yes then thats 60 bucks in maybe 20 minutes if they all gave her a $20

Ok, example of small change collections. Last year The Salvation Army raised $93 million dollars with the bulk coming from the red kettles during the holidays. I know there are tons of bell ringers around, but this is an example of small change adding up.

If this happens again, walk them to the closest deli and buy them a sandwich or soup or bring them to a soup kitchen. You never know where the money is going. Drugs, cigarettes, booze. Just watch your wallet and such, they could be casing you for a robbery too.

What did your heart tell you? In all fairness you may have been giving her the money for food and she may have been lying to you to get it for other reasons. The only thing you can do is pray that she was telling you the truth and the next time something like this happens instead of handing over cash offer to go to the grocery store or a fast food place and make a purchase for them. This way you know that your money is being used for what the person said it was needed for and if they refuse your offer then you know you have done the right thing.

I think you did the right thing. Any time your heart leads you to do something good for someone, DO IT!!! What the woman did with it, that's on her.

I remember leaving a restaurant in Florida once and saw a man eating straight out of a trash dumpster. Before getting in the car with a friend, I began to look in my purse for money and to give him my leftovers also. My heart was just aching for him. My friend aggressively and vigorously discouraged me from giving anything to the man. To this VERY day, I regret it. I can't begin to tell you how much. Since then, I give to anything I'm led to donate to. I like being able to sleep at night and maintain a clear conscious.

If you truly believed the woman and gave her the money out of the goodness of your heart... you did the right thing

People like you help to make the world a better place :)

Assuming the woman did not lie, now you can go to bed with a smile on your face knowing that you gave a starving woman a nice meal

You did what you felt you needed to do. No one can say what she will do, she may have really been hungry and your kindness bought her a few meals. If she used it for anything else that is not your fault. I always look at it this way; she is someones daughter, maybe someones sister or mother. I do what I would want someone to do if it were my daughter, my sister or my mom. The world needs more people with big hearts like yours.

It's kinda like giving to the Lord thru the church... you don't always know that they do the right thing with it, but what matters most is that you gave to what you thought/felt was a good, worthy cause.
God still blesses you for it, regardless. Whether their intentions are good or not... you certainly aren't wrong in having a compassionate, giving heart.

There are those people who truly need money for food. Your friends have a point, however. There are also those who are just too lazy to get any money. I would suggest buying food for that lady. That way, if she really needed it, she would have it. If she didn't need the money for food, then she wouldn't be able to waste it on other things.

You were right, as a matter of fact the only thing you might have done wrong was not giving her more than she asked for, that's the way people love one another, ....giving, without question

Well usually these people are just lying & if you see them later they will have a whole nother story. If you watch them they will go sit down somewhere & pull out this big stack of money.

We had a guy approch us at Wal-Mart. He said that he had just got here & run out of gas & money for food for his kids.
Well a couple of weeks later he was still there doing the same thing. I guess that wal-mart finally kicked him out because we haven't seen him now.

I say that they just need to go GET A JOB!!!!
AND STOP TAKING OUR MONEY THAT WE WORK OUR BUTTS OFF TO EARN!!!!

No I think you have a GOOD heart. Don't let anyone make you feel foolish for that. You should feel proud that you were helping your fellow man. Your friends should be careful because what goes around comes around, maybe one day they'll need money and someone will walk past them. BE PROUD FOR HELPING SOMEONE LESS FORTUNATE
