I know they need 16 hours of sleep minimum, and they shouldn't stay awake more than 2 hours at a time. But how often do yours nap? And how long each time?

My high need 5week old takes one 2 hour nap around 2-4pm, and several 5-20 minutes naps thoughout the day. He "out for the night" around 9pm wakes to nurse at 11, 2, 4, 6-7 and is up for the day.

Forget the minimums and maximums, those are just guidelines. Babies are not ruled by schedules when they are this young. The rule of thumb is, let him sleep when he's tired and be awake as long as he is happy.

At 5 weeks, my son was awake a lot, more than is "recommended". But he was happy. He's always been a very alert baby. I have a friend with a 7 week old who pretty much sleeps all day. But he was 4 weeks early and is really closer to a 3 week old in many ways.

It's all really dependent on your individual situation and the personality of your baby. As long as your little one is healthy and happy, don't fret about getting enough sleep. His body will say when it's time to go to sleep.

Every child is different. Do not go by what "expert" say. Use your best judgment. If the child is tired, let him sleep. My 14 yr old very rarely slept longer than 1 hour from the day he was born. If the baby gets fussy after changing, feeding, & burping, chances are they need a nap. if your baby isn't sleeping that much, it may just be the type of person who does not need as much sleep as others! :)

Every baby is different! However, my youngest slept every four hours. She was like an alarm clock. If she fed a 3:16 then she was awake at 7:16. It was really funny!

As often as they need to. what works for one baby is different for another. My baby ( thank GOD) slept the whole night through at 7 weeks, and 8-10 hours at a time, and has kept that!

With babies, if they are sleepy, let them sleep. If hungry, let them eat as much and as often as they want. There are no absolutes with babies...they make the rules and the moms should follow their babies signals.

Well, they do tend to sleep up to 16 hours... if you doubt your baby is awake very frequently, it's best to consult with the doctor because the baby must be bothered by something...

This will vary by baby for they feed at different intervals and so forth.......the body leads as what is required so there is no set schedule other than what needs the baby reveals to you.

Do not worry about comparing and trying to stay on task with a magazine - just meet your babys' needs and enjoy the time you are able to share!

Merry Christmas to you and your special gift from God!!!

my son was a SLEEPER!! (i was soo lucky!!) he slept way more than 16 hours a day. i actually had to force him to stay awake for any amount of time by undressing him and forcing him to play with things he was uninterested in. so i wouldn't worry about it too much, sleep isn't hurting him and as long as he's eating well and having a dirty diaper everyday...he's a healthy little boy. good luck!!

My one-month old is very very nearly extra energetic during his sleep than he's whilst he's wakeful. it is not something to tension approximately. Her stretches and facial expressions would in basic terms be gasoline, yet likely they are no longer something. Newborns are wierd little creatures. She is getting lots of relax; their bodies alter each thing o.k., whether it does not look like it. Congrats and stable success!

The best thing for babies is to nurse and sleep and interact with mommy on demand.
