Europeans, Help me understand.?

Question

It's about soccer/football. Why do you like it so much? Do not get me wrong, I think that soccer is a fine sport. I just don't think that it is as awesome as people make it out to be. For example, I can google image just about any European country, and what do I find? Football. That's right, Europe is filled with rich history and people that sculpted the way that the earth is today,and all you see to represent your country is football. Tell me what you think.

I'm American by the way. And besides the soccer thing, I have much respect for Europe.

im possibly one of the few men in england that hates football. it is a mind numbing waste of time played by overpayed ballerinas and watched by mindless hooligan thugs. during the last world cup, when england was beaten by portugal [i believe, i wasnt following it] my brother was approached by two lads asking him if he was porugese and from the way they were acting they were going to give him a kicking. they stoped when the brainless b@stards realised he was going out with one of thier cousins. this is just an example of the pathetic tribe mentality that exists around a game that reduces grown me to tears when an inflated bladder is not kicked between two posts.

Think about you work for 5 days a week, sitting behind a desk in front of computer or do other jobs. When it comes to weekend you and your mates, probably chilhood mates walk together to the stadium and watched your favourite team playing footy.

It's a sport, just like how American people enjoy watching NBA or NFL people around the world enjoy football. It's a sport, an entertainment, a topic for discussion, a fever, a party, a celebration, tears come together with laugh, passions. When your fave team won you felt like you're beyond the sky and when your team lost you cheer them up and still supporting them.

the sport is exciting and it brings you together with mates and when you support different teams it becomes even more fun. Yeah there are hooligans but to stereotype us all like the person above did is just lack of knowledge. There are so many emotions involved in football...from the most ultimate high to the biggest heartbreak. There are few feelings that compare to seeing your team win a trophy and it might sound a little crazy but it's true...and when they loose/get eliminated from something big after the initial tears you wipe them off and you wait for the next chance at it. When you search for country i imagine u see national teams and that's a whole different level of passion its love of the game mixed with being patriotic and like i said unless you feel it you probably won't understand.

I love the sport. Like you said, it's full of history and it goes way back. It makes ppl so passionate about it, and there is just so much spirit and loyalty. Plus, it's amazingly exciting and fun to watch. The game is beautiful, and it mimics life so much that you're just drawn to it. I love soccer, it's the best sport around =)

why do i like it?

you'll have to watch a football match to know what i mean.....the fans are infectious......they react to every foul or goal or conterversy that happens......and it's a beautiful sport.....i'ts watched by almost any kind of people......just seeing different people coming together and become friends just because they support a team together is priceless

In America circa, 2006 Soccer sucks, unless you are a little boy or little girl. But some Soccer moms are pretty hot!
