I've been a wiccan for years now (although I don't practice much ceremonial magic) and I always thought the rule of three was a ridiculous waste of energy.

For one thing, any idiot who thinks they know the consequences of the spell they are doing is already in trouble. There are too many factors that work with the energy once you release it to ensure that even a 'good' spell does not have negative outcomes.

Also, because casting a spell has as much to do with the person's mindset, if you are worrying to much about the law of three to effectively concentrate your energy, you've already diminished the power of the spell and the reason for doing it.

Another thing is that 'the law of three' has the unintended consequence of, if you mess up, your mistake will come back to you 3x as bad. That's a gambler's odds and a loanshark's interest.

Personally, I think 'the law of three' is what caused such a backlash of patriarchy to occur. If matriarchal worship revolved around the rule of three, and it fell into pride and denigration of the male contribution, a 3x payback against it would account for the utter domination of patriarchy in the last several thousand years or so.

A one-to-one consequence is hard enough to pay sometimes if you mess up. If you need money, ask for the exact amount. If you want to fall in love, search for one person. Anything beyond invites trouble.

It is my belief that you may cast a spell of retribution and avoid the law of three. If you do this, all you are doing is influencing the karmic forces to get moving and serve justice.
However, simply trying to cast a spell in order to curse someone, or the like will set the wrath of karma and polarity upon oneself.
Just make sure that the punishment fits the crime.

Really it's just a variation on the law of cause and effect. If you throw butter into a hot pan, it will melt. Throw an object up, gravity brings it back down. It's like asking, "if I add 1 + 1 enough times, can I avoid getting 2?" No, you can't. It's just the way of things.

No. Thats why it is a law. A karmic law at that...and if you seek to avoid it, you should really check your intentions and I hope youre not calling yourself wiccan. Wiccans who are true to the beliefs would never have intentions in spellcasting which made them fear the law of three.

According to the wiccan beliefs that I have seen so far, what energy you put into the world comes back to you. If you put negative energy into the world, regardless of what spell you cast,it will come back to bite you in the ***.
Wiccans, please correct me if I am wrong on this one...

No. No you can't. Magic is as Magic does (Jim Henson actually) and you can't get away from paying for what you do. If you do good or evil you get it returned to you. It's all in the intent of the magic you do. when in doubt, my child, DON'T. Blessings.
