I used to keep wolves when I lived in Alaska, and spent a good deal of time in the bush watching wild packs. Alone, a wolf has some physical advantages over a domestic dog of the same size, but is much less likely to allow a physical confrotation with anything near their size. They are smarter than that. In even a small pack, their intelligence and ability to cooperate give them a great advantage. I have seen footage of 3 wolves chasing a 900 lb brown bear off it's kill so they could eat it's food. Then again, I have seen a (tame) lone wolf submit to a labrador retriever to avoid a fight. That same wolf killed a pitbull and did some serious damage to a husky when it was attacked by them at the same time and had no choice a month or two later.

Really? 3 wolves chasing off what appeared to be about a 900 pound brown bear away from meat? Were there more wolves lurking nearby you did not see but the bear could smell? Possibly? You do know one paw swat from a 900 pound brown bear will crush a full grown moose's skull killing it instantly right?

I believe a wolf could kill a deer, or rodents in a fight, or at least stand a shot.

Wait, arctic wolves will try to take on a polar bear as a source of food? Really?

Additional: Thanks for your add details. So wolves do chase bears? Wow!

It would really depend. Do you mean just one wolf, which would be very unlikely as they nearly always travel in packs or do you mean a pack? The reason that wolves are so powerful is that they work together to take out their prey or even their enemies. It would also depend on what type of wolf you mean. Some types are more powerful than others but other types are faster.
Arctic wolves -polar bears and perhaps sea lions.
most America wolves- Deer, elk, moose, big-horn sheep and musk oxen.
I hope this helps.

That is a tough question- usually wolves are in packs, so do you mean more than 1 or just one wolf?
A wolf could take any small animal, some can take a deer by themselves if the deer is very sick, and they could probably take bobcats (though I have trail cam footage of a bobcat killing a deer though-no joke!). Wolf and lynx would be pretty close. They could take foxes and wild domesticated dogs.
