This can be accomplished in a few steps
1. Move to Germany
2. Grow to about 7 feet tall
3. Grow long goofy looking hair
4. Spend 20 hours a day 7 days a week for the rest of your life shooting shots. Then you just might be like Dirk

Dirk Nowitzki is a great player. But don't focus on him. Focus on yourself. Obviously, to be a great shooter you have be willing to spend time practicing. And you have to practice consistently. Also, how you practice is important as well. These are some things I recommend when practicing:

1) Shoot with confidence. Be confident the shot will go in before you shoot it. If you have confidence when shooting, there is a much higher chance the shot will go in.
2) Put backspin on the ball
3) If you are right handed, keep your right hand, right arm, and right leg in the same plane (straight line) when shooting.
4) Use your legs to add distance to your shot.
5) Aim for the back of the rim

Some drills I recommend:
1) Around the World (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Around_the_World_(basketball) )
2) Lots of free throws
3) 18-20 jump shots from 5 spots (left corner, right corner, top of the key, midway between each corner and the top of the key)

Well basically, study his shot from clips and highlights. But I don't think you should shoot like Dirk. Unless you're 7 feet tall, than I don't suggest you shoot like him. The reason why his shot is the way it is, is that it's both comfortable and his height plays a big role. Just shoot what feels comfortable, and if ur serious, go see a shooting coach. But good luck with shooting like Dirk, but i don't think it will work effectively.

I tried dirks shooting over the summer .......though its pretty tough to shoot succesfully like him. I would always hit the front of the rim. I usually jump first and shoot in mid-air. It will be much easier if your 7 feet or 6'10 or at least the tallest person on the court.

Well first you take a ball then you shoot the ball in the way dirk does. sorry that was pretty dumb but it might just help.

You should try to shoot like yourself. Everyone's jumpshot is their own or it's inspired by someone else's.

Watch videos of Dirk on Youtube.

I don't think your gonna shoot just like him.

But your jumpshot can be inspired by his.

GOD BLESS
