A wallet works for any guy.
If he's into home remodeling a man can never have enough tape measures or hammers.
If he likes to relax and read the newspaper get him a subscription for the newspaper or a magazine.
If you aren't too close but you know he would like you to be buy a gift certificate for a restaurant and invite him out to eat.
Happy Holidays.

Imaginative and loving:

Something that you made - does not have to be perfect - the key is that it has your loving energy in it.

More prosaic:

A pair of nice leather gloves for winter, or a really nice soft scarf. A magazine subscription around his favorite topic (ok - his second favorite topic...)
A book - you can pick out something really beautiful and expensive at the bookstore and then buy it cheap on amazon or half.com (get new, like-new, excellent or very good condition).
A nicely framed picture of him and you - have a friend take it who takes beautiful pictures (and then get an 8 by 10 print at walmart) - or go to a portrait studio that is reasonable or having a sale.

if your dad does project around the house or in the yard.. you could get him a pair of cowhide leather gloves... you can find them at any hardware store about 8 dollars.. that way you can send someone else a present too

If he works in an office, maybe a tie. He could probably use a nice pair of gloves & scarf. Does he wear slippers?

i bought my kids grandfather a small tool box and a few small hand tools, so he can have a small, take anywhere box to do little jobs, he said it was a great gift.

the box had two drawers and it was only $7 at wal-mart.

i don't know if i gave you any idea, but it's just what we did.
