Can you sue your landlord for turning off the gas that runs your stove in the house??

It is illeagle for you landlord to shut off gas or any utility in your home for any reason. I would advise you to speak with an attorney in your area and find out what you need to do to force the landlord to turn on your gas. Each state is different when it comes to this subject, but it is clear you landlord is violating landlord/tenant law in your state.

Second, you never have the right to withhold your rent. If it gets to the point where you want or feel like you need to do that, you need to open up an escrow account and put the money there until he fixes the problem and then you can release the back rent to him.

Call the gas company and tell them your landlord has turne the gas off! Call the cops to see if you can file a report if not charges! Hell, find another place to move! Save 2500 dollars over the next to years, and put a down pament on a duplex. Rent out one half and live in the other. You will never have to deal with a landlord for the rest of your life! That's 100 dallars every month in untouched savings.

I hear that you pay your bills, but even if you didn't, this is illegal for him to do. Most state laws require a landlord to provide minimum standards, and gas for the stove would be on the list.

Legally he has to give you advanced notice and if you have kids in the house that makes things even more in your favor especially if you aren't behind on any bills.He can't just decide one day to turn off your gas unless he brings you an electric stove to replace the gas one you have.
