When did your baby/child with reflux outgrow it? My 7 month old was on Zantac, then switched to Prevacid. He has diarrhea and is sleepy all the time on it. He also stopped eating solids since he has been taking it (I suppose because its mixed with his food knows the strawberry taste) I am just curious when other reflux babies outgrew it, and how long he will have to go through this!

I work with premature babies and most of them have reflux. Most are off the medicine between 18 months. It really depends on how the baby is doing, whether or not they are still vomitting and how their weight gain goes.

There are many factors that influence why your baby has acid reflux. Generally children will out grow it within 9 to 12 months. A few thing you can do to ease some of the issues may be to switch to a soy based formula instead of a milk based formula. Check with you pediatrician for sure before making any significant changes to your baby's diet.

Switching to soy worked with both of our kids. Good luck...

My son's started improving when he began to eat solids at 4 months, at 6 months they took him off of his medication. He seemed to still spit up a lot compared to my other two until he was 11 months, but he didn't seem to be in pain much after 6 months. I think it probably depends on the severity of the reflux.
