Sorry, but the metal detectors are strictly decorative at this point in time. They may be of use sometime in the future but not right now.
The metal detectors were introduced into Millsberry just before Sylvie was discovered in Sylvane Lake. Residents who had purchased a metal detector could search the beach at Sylvane Lake and find a toy boat, a rusted tin can, a bag of silver and a box containing an article about robertjwilliams who was the original person that discovered Sylvie living in the lake.
But it is certainly possible that the metal detectors may be of use at some point in the future so definitely hang on to it.

treasure hunting never had metal detectors, so it uses things that the pirates used
