The iPod uses the MPeg-4 video file format. Unfortunately, you will need software to convert it if you would like to be able to play it.

Here's a link to software that can accomplish exactly what you are looking for:
http://video-2-ipod.com/?OVRAW=ipod%20movie%20dvd&OVKEY=dvd%20movie%20ipod&OVMTC=standard

Since this software isn't directly interfacing with iTunes or it's folders, you shouldn't have the issue you had previously.

Once your movie is converted, use the import feature in iTunes to bring the movie in, then sync with your iPod to move it to your device.

Good luck!

Well if you want to, then you will have to download the software to do so because you have to put it into the right format. Sorry

Hannah I feel your pain, but there is no easy answer. I suggest you go to these two sites

ripdifferent.com

or

ilounge.com

There are plenty of forums there on detailing how to get what you need done... remember knowledge is power...
