Santa was St. Nicholas who was born during the third century in the village of Patara on the southern coast of Turkey. He was raised in a wealthy family, but he decided to follow Jesus, selling all that he had and giving money to the poor, sick, and suffering. He was made Bishop of Myra while he was still a young man and became known for his generosity and special love for children.
One story tells of a poor man with 3 daughters who could not afford a dowry so that they could get married. Without a dowry they wouldn't get married and sold into slavery. On 3 different occasions, a bag of gold appeared in their home providing the dowry they needed. The bags were tossed through a window and landed in stockings or shoes left before the fire to dry. This led to the custom of children hanging stockings awaiting gifts from Saint Nicholas. Another story says that on the eve of Christmas St. Nicholas would put baskets on each side of a donkey and deliver gifts to poor kids in the village. His feast day is December 6.May his story inspire others to give to the poor by having a toy drive...Merry Christmas...

Our American Santa Claus was not invented by the Coke Company. He was created by the man who wrote 'Twas the Night Before Christmas. This one poem dramatically shaped the way that we looked at Christmas - the reindeer, the Santa Clause myth (there was St. Nicholas and other such myths in other countries, but this poem shaped our view of Santa.) It changed the conception of Christmas as a primarily religious holiday to a secular holiday - you notice that Jesus does not appear in the poem! It was originally thought to be written by Clement Clarke Moore, but is now thought to be the work of Major Henry Lewiston Jr.

Santa is as real as Harry Potter. How real do you want to get. Santa probably has a profound influence on our lives and that makes him real. He's real in our hearts and minds and he controls the behavior of many people who are concerned that he checks that list twice and comes around once a year.
Yeah, he's real.
