I mean that tell you where you went to get the problem and what steps are needed to clean your system? I use Norton and it seems to tell me very little, I'd like to know where I caught the issue and more details on what to do (would asking for the exact site, time, and why with my virus protection on, how did I get a virus to begin with? be too much to ask)

Nortons I am sorry to say is pure garbage an always has been.

I love to test antispyware/antivirus software in my spare times. And when I tested Nortons I will tell you that it found no Trojans that I installed in my systems. Plus the biggest shock came when I went to add/remove and thought that all of Nortons was removed. What I found was that Nortons/Symantec left over 350 fragments glued to all my files/folders plus fragments hidden all over my system.

If you are not able to remove 100%, please feel free to email me an I will give you a link for software that is purchased, but you can use it during the evaluation period to remove the mess. Plus indepth instructions on how to rid yourself of all the fragments.

Here is an excellent antivirus free program from AOL. You don't have to be a member to download this free antivirus program. They will send you a free key. Active Virus Shield, powered by Kaspersky Labs., Russia. This software is rated #1, in the world for virus detection along with the ability to trace the virus.

Plus you get updates on the hour and real time scanner in the background.

As to a virus. All you have to do is go onto the internet and you can hit with trojans, spyware, adware, malware and rogue dialers. That is the nature of the WWW.

Hi,

Just the use of Anti-Virus software in your PC is not safe enough. You will still need to have a Firewall to protect your PC against malware, adware, spyware etc etc.

There are free firewalls around. Read this tutorial on why you need a firewall and where to get it. http://www.allpctips.com/security/What-is-a-firewall-and-why-you-need-it.htm

I recommend McAfee, it has advanced protection, and it's popular. (www.mcafee.com). I also recommend AOL Safety and Security Center. You can search for it on any search engine. It'll be on the first page, somewhere in the first 5 results.

I use avg free 7.5 and never have had a problem...which is more than I can say for Norten's. Avg is great and reliable, give it a try.

Norten's let a virus in and it crashed my hard drive...it is avg forever here!

To my knowledge, there is nothing like that.

However, you can do it manually. Make a log of your surfing, and note when the "blocked" message comes up. Also, check the names of the files. Sometimes that can be a tell-tale sign of where it is from.
