It was a mistake to build the levees and the areas that are below sea level are where poor people tend to live. When they broke the slums were destroyed, so 15000 poor folks left New Orleans and didn't come back. Apparently some people would be better off with fewer poor residents, Like the taxpayers of New Orleans. The parts of the city where the affluent live and do business are at a higher elevation and survived the flood. If you look at it in terms of dollars and cents, it didn't pay to spend all that money to protect slums.

That is not up to GW, it is up to the State to repair their own levees. Something interesting is the state of Louisiana actually knew they could stand to be repaired and opted not to fix them in a vote. GW is only guilty of not responding to the devastaion fast enough after Katrina hit. Anything that happened before Katrina can be blamed on the State itself....like Levee repair, and organizing busses to take people away from the danger...etc.

GW has people to do that for him. The President of the United States does not have time to worry about every little thing. The Louisiana government was responsible. It was their responsibilty to make sure the levee would hold when they built it. You don't build a home of toothpicks and say it will stay up through a hurricane. The Louisiana people themselves are to blame, not GW. Please get your facts straight.

See, that's what happens when you don't pay attention. the Federal government gave money to New Orleans for just that purpose and their famous chockolate mayor spent it on a tourism center and busses instead. Then he stood around with his thumb in his butt when Katrina hit instead of doing his job. Put the bong down and read a book once in a while. A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Eeeck, I must defend GW. Here goes:

Why is he responsible for people choosing to live in a dangerous situation. Living below sea level in a flood prone area isn' the smartest choice-and then WE, ME, the taxpayer is supposed to pay to rescue the "vitims", feed, them, etc....oh wait, I was paying to feed them to begin with.....

America works because we have choices-there is no law that says because you are black or poor you can't go to school, better yourself, etc. If you choose not to take advantage of those opportunities, why ask ME to bail you out? I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth either, I took student loans, worked hard in school, got a job and am paying off my loans and paying taxes to support people who won't even try to help themselves.

Those people KNEW they were living in a dangerous area before Katrina, KNEW Katrina was coming.....and chose not to leave....in your own words, they didn't do jack squat. Why?

Louisiana was given the money twice to fix the levees. The state chose to spend the money on casinos. Put the blame where it is due.

Not everything that happens is the responsibility of President Bush. The funds had already been given to fix the problem, but they chose to use that money elsewhere.Sorry, you can't pin this one on Bush this time.

Why didn't the state of Louisiana fix them? Everybody that voted for the corrupt mayor and Governor are to blame. I suppose has long as they kept getting their welfare they didn't care.

The real question is, why did he order the Army Corps. of Engineers down there the day before Katrina to break holes in them? That's what I heard. Then he had them all come back to his ranch and clear brush with him.
