what would be a substitute good that i could buy that is like a ps3 but is at most 300 dollars?

The core 360. It's the next closest thing to the PS3. A lot of the 3rd party games will appear on the PS3 and 360. Problem is that PS3 will have some exclusive games, which your son can't play unless he has a PS3. But on the bright side, he can play some 360 games that's not available on the PS3.
The Wii is an alternative, but it's not anywhere near the PS3 or 360. The Wii is going to have it's own niche of games because of the Wii-mote.

I reccomend to buy him a xbox 360 beside its cheaper than ps3 $400 for full package and $300 FOR CORE PACKAGE and it have better graphic, i didnt say ilike it because graph but about game that fun and inovative.

You should probably get him the Wii. Its only 250 bucks and is really fun. It might not have so much memory, but I think it's really worth it.

ask him to wait for it or see if he rather have another system, some people are really picky abotu game systems, so if hes never asked for a cheaper one dont get it with out findin out from him first
