Have you actually deleted the link from the Start Menu/Program File list? If so, follow these instructions...

The Defragmenter application sits here:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\dfrg.msc

1. Navigate to this location, right-click the file and 'Send To: Desktop (create shortcut).' What you need to do now is to reinstate this shortcut....

2. Go to your Desktop and drag the Defragementer shortcut (that you've just saved) over your Start button until the Start button activates (after a second or two).

3. Keeping your mouse button held down, drag it over All Programs, which should expand.

4. Still keeping your mouse button held down, drag the shortcut over Accessories and it will expand yet again.

5. Finally, drag it over System Tools and once it expands, hover the shortcut over the contents of the System Tools menu and let go and it should be reinstated.

'Hope that helps.

I beleive the following may solve your problem. Go to start and find the disc defrag. icon.Right click the icon.A drop down menu will show the shortcut option.Left click the shortcut and it should appear on the desktop. If I'm wrong go to Barnes and Noble books and buy "windows xp tips and tricks," about $12.00. A great handy reference.
