Yes, you need to buy either a switch or a router...http://www.newegg.com/ProductSort/SubCategory.asp?SubCategory=28

To connect two computer to one cable moden=m you need a router. You can either buy a regular ethernet (wired) router or a ethernet and wireless router. With the wireless router you can hook up one machine with an ethernet cable and up to 253 othe machines with wireless network cards. With the wired type normally you can choose a 4 port router.

Linksys, Belkin both make good routers and they are down to about $50-90 bucks now.
Hope that helps.

You need a router, in which your case you need to link up only 2 computer (Available commonly on market at 4,8,12,16 RJ45 ports).

Your typical connection would be
1) Telephone cable to your router (normally at the rear of router)
2) Router to your PC INDIVIDUALLY (normally at the front of router)
E.g. PC1 to port 1, PC2 to port 2

PS- Remember to power up your router with electricity OK!!!

If you are using Microsoft OS,
1) Proceed to Network Neighborhood to locate your connection of PC1 to PC2 is available.
2) Check your Internet connection via i.e. (Internet explorer)

NOTE: switch alone is not enough ok!!!

A router should do the job. If any of the computers use a wireless network card, you will need a wireless router. Makers are Lynksys, D-Link, Belkin, Hawkins, etc.

it's called a "router". You plug your cable modem wire into that, and from there plug 2 wires to each computer, and that makes a "network" with split internet connections!

you need a router, such as the linksys wrt54g, approximately $50. and you can turn off the wireless if you dont need it. Or visit your local firedog specialist located at Circuit City.
