Cremation is a personal choice and much easier for nonbelievers since they have no faith in the the christian concept of "the rapture."

Cremation, as stated several times is cheaper. But, the more important reason is that cremation is final and certainly eliminates the useless ceremony that mostly benefits the morticians and casket industry.

As stated above, cremation is final. Therefore, a question to the Asker: How can you be sure that your grave site, resulting from a traditional funeral. will be cared for and tended for eons to come?

A mountain side, the seas and oceans of this world, or the great plains and deserts of this earth are eternal. What better places to have your remains disbursed?

I read a book that tells you what happens to your body after you die. Oh my, I really do not want to have that stuff happen to me so I want to be cremated. You can get books about death and the processes a body takes while it breaks down. Ewwww.

It is a good way to keep burial costs down. All my family members (including myself) have directed we want to be cremated. Once the spirit has flown, the body is just a shell.

- It's cheaper.
- If you want to stay in the cemetery, you take up less space.
- You won't decompose in the ground with bugs eating you.
- you can get scattered anywhere. Like at sea - you get your ashes scattered rather than having sea animals eat you.
- In some cultures, they believe that burning the body frees the soul from it.

Even in death, some people remain tightwads to the end. Others want their ashes to be scattered over an area of their choice.

It's LOTS cheaper. And you can get your ashes scattered darn near anywhere.

And best of all, you don't have to deal with funeral directors, which are the closet you'll come to a cross between Count Dracula and a thief in this life.

Practical reasons. It's cheaper. Why buy a $5000.00 coffin just to rot in the ground?

It's cheaper than buying land (a plot or vault) for your remains; your remains will take up much less space; your remains could fertilize a fruit tree for your grandchildren to eat from; your enemies could use your remains for an ashtray....
