Evokid is correct. People can sleep with their eyes open. It is normal but rare.
I have fallen asleep staning up and remained asleep until my knees buckled and I hit the deck. It's quite a jar.

I am interested to know, why you believe that people can't do these things.
I don't know about totally upside down, but I use to sleep in a chair with my head hanging off of the seat and my feet at the top of the back rest. I wouldn't suggest doing it without some type of support. (No head stands please)
I have also slept standing up holding on to a pole while riding the bus to college. Again, I would suggest having a support to aid balance. Of course, I was pretty tired at the time.
My grandfather often slept with his eyes open and I have heard mention of others that do as well.

Well to a human, the position of sleeping is not comfortable if it were to be standing up or hanging down. We are simply not designed to rest in those position. This is not just the bones but also concern other physiological aspects. We do not sleep with our eyes open to protect them. Imagine sleeping with your eyes open and some animals came along and have a feast on your eyes.

The reason why we cannot remain standing without support while sleeping while other animals can is because of how our muscles work. Try holding a heavy book with your arm extended for a long time, and you'll see why. Our muscles use quick contractions to do work, while other animals have muscles that are slower and lock in place, to an effect.

We cannot sleep upside-down, because the blood would rush to our head.. and we would...die.
We cannotsleep with our eyes open, because our eyes would dry out. But animals CAN because they have something like a second eyelid that comes in sideways, inside the outer eyelid , to keep there eyes from drying out.

Due to the slower blood circulation when we are sleeping. The heart rests, and needs the body to be in a flat position to allow for the resting position.
