Oh, goodness. Its mouth is already formed! You don't have to do anything! And stay away and it won't bite you.

foaming at the mouth? Like spit bubbles or rabies foaming? I am assuming you mean that he was just spitting up something and bites you- no problems there.
If he was rabid, by the time he would foam at the mouth he would also be very terrified of water and not able to eat- would just sway around the cage angrily. The only way your hamster could have gotten rabies is if it contacted the spit or body fluids of an animal with rabies (including a dead one). It takes about 6-12 weeks to show up in an animal. If you think he may be rabid, you need to bring him to the vet- they will take a sample of his brain (he will need to be killed) and send it for testing. Meanwhile, you need to get to the Dr because once symptoms show with rabies- you are dead. There is only 1 person who survived severe rabies in the whole history of knowing about the disease (happened 2 yrs ago).
As for rabies immunizations, most people can't afford them- $150ish each for 3 shots. I need to get them for my field of work, but haven't saved up enough money yet.

do you mean foam at the mouth- well then your hamster might have some serious illness ....... rabies . foam is just saliva that comes at the mouth to rehydrate the mouth during rabies . rabies makes animals afraid of water , and so they dont drink hence resulting in dehydration . if it has bitten you , immedeately inform your doctor as well as the vet . the vet must be informed at the earliest that the pet has foaming .
if the vet diagnoses it hamster with rabies ......... you will have to give your pet up , rabies has no cure and the hamster will have to be killed .

ok I got this information from my doctor when I was injected with anti-rabies!~
pet rodents(hamster, guinea pig, rabbits) VERY rarely develop rabies. they will only get rabies when they come in contact with other rodents found outside like squirrels and bats. this is the same with cats, cats also very rarely develop rabies. Pets that come from pet stores do not have rabies at all because they are sure to be clean and eat clean food and drink clean water, and never come in contact with any outside animals.
I never heard of hamsters foaming in the mouth, just be sure to buy them in a licensed pet shop and you will be fine even if they accidentally bite you. or if you are a hypochondriac like me, get rabies immunization shot before getting a pet so whatever happens, you are sure that you will not be affected. And to be double sure, once you get your hamster you can take it to the vet and give it an immunization shot as well.
You can never be too sure.^-^

Uh...
I have had three hamsters and a gerbil and none of them ever foamed at the mouth... sometimes they nip you, but if they do that you musn't punish them or yell or anything, it will just make them do it again (don't ask me why). When you first get them, they might nip you to see if you taste good, but if they do, if it really hurts put them down gently, if it doesn't just carry on what you were doing (unless it was something that made them scared so they bit).

You need to go to your doctor. If your hampster has rabies and he bit you there is 100% chance that you will die without treatment. Foaming at the mouth is one of the signs of rabies. If it is confirmed that the hampster has rabies, you and everyone who has had contact with him will need a series of injections otherwise you will die and it is not a pretty way to die.

Your hamster could be very sick. Call the vet, and maybe a nurse can tell you over the phone what it might be.
