It depends on what type of ps2 you have. If you have one of the old, big ones, your problem might be that the lens got dirty.
To fix that, you need to open it up by unscrewing the screws hidden under those little rubber caps on the bottom and one of the sides. When you pry it open, be careful not to pull on that silver tape that connects the reset and open buttons to the system.
Then you have to unscrew those tiny screws on the cap that says warning. REMEMBER THAT THE PS2 HAS TO BE TURNED OFF DURING THE ENTIRE PROCESS.
The warning label says to not look directly into the lens because of radiation, but it's okay when it's turned off.
Next whipe off the lense with a very soft and delicate cloth so you don't scratch it.
Put the black lid back on how it was, but don't screw it in yet. Put a game in and turn it on (with the cap where it's supposed to be so you don't go blind from radiation) and see if it works. If it doesn't, try moistening the cloth a little.
When it works, put the screws back where they go and close up your system. If it starts happening again just keep cleaning it yourself unless you want to go take it to a specialist.
Be extremely carefull when you pull the ps2 apart, not to breake or pull off the silver tape. (that's how I broke mine and had to throw it away:( !!!!!!!!!!
If you have one of those new ones and you already tried wiping the lens, I can't help you there. Sorry.

What I used to do is take a working laptop or computer lens air purifier CD and positioned it in my ps2. it particularly is going to say the disk won't be able to be examine, yet after commencing and shutting the PS2 tray lots of situations, the lens get in basic terms as new.
