Wait until after university or collage or trade school. It would be a good idea to wait until at least one of you have a job that offers some sort of security, so you can have a life together a house or apartment, a car and be able to pay all the bills and live on your own. I met my fiance in high school I knew at 17 I wanted to marry him but we waited. We dated, when he finished his courses we moved in together, then we bought a house together. We still love each other but we're not the same people were were at 17. We don't hang out with the same people we used to. There were lots of things that could have ended our relationship but didn't. An engagement is a huge undertaking. Living with someone isn't " Oh I love you." " No I love you more" all the time. it's a lot of work and I know at 18 It wasn't something I was prepared for. Give her the ring as a promise ring not as an engagement ring. Let her know how much you love her, we can all see that you really do. And let her know that this ring is a promise that you will ask her to marry you down the road but not now.

I have a teen daughter, and there are a few guys that have asked her the same thing. She knew that they were kidding, of course. The guys that have asked her that usually mean it as a compliment, because they thought she was pretty (she's a model, so guys say weird stuff to her all the time).
Get used to it....guys will say whatever the girl wants to hear, or thinks that the girl wants to hear.

Karina, I have a reliable source that tells me that what happened to you is a common (and rather annoying) "dare". Keep on your toes- the next thing they will try is to get your attention to look across the room at him in class and they will do the same to him. Be prepared for this and have a quick retort ready. Whatever you do at this point- do NOT take it seriously.
If it helps, no matter how bad things get- it is ONLY temporary!

Go get eloped in Las Vegas. Screw school, get pregnant, and start your own family. He can work as a shoe-shiner for the next few years until he's old enough to work at McDonald's. Maybe you can find an abandoned building to live in until there's enough money to roll in for a proper subsidized apartment.
(Please don't take that seriously. Just ask him what that was all about. You don't need to start dating for a couple of years anyway.)

I'm thinking it was a joke.....these guys in my class were playing around and they're sophmores so most of them already have their class rings. One of the guys was like "Hey, it'd be funny if you ask someone to 'marry you'" Lo and behold one of them did, so he took his class ring, bent down on one knee and asked one of the most popular girls in my school to marry him.....it wasn't pretty. But yea, I 'd seriously take that as a crude joke, nothing more, nothing less.

This is a very sticky situation. Now don't go making decisions that may damage your life. As you said, you hardly know him, how can you spend the rest of your life with someone you hardly know?
