So there are some things I like about cancers but mostly they're just annoying (yeah i'm a cancer)! I have never gotten along with cancers or been attracted to them. And all my signs fall into water or fire categories, could this be why I never quite find myself in astrology, just little bits of a few signs... fire/water, water is too weak and fire too forceful? ahh I’m confused! Will I always be a contradiction?

I'm a fire sign who has known many water signs over the years.
You said, "water is too weak..." Here's my two cents on water signs: Water has a corrosive effect. For example, over time, a waterfall will change the appearance of the rock over which it flows causing indentations, and other changes. In this respect, a water sign is not weak at all. A water sign will, over time, wear down a fire sign to the point where the good-natured fire sign has had it's fill, and will put the water sign in its place. Water puts out fire, and fire heats up water. I have found this to be true in my relationships with water signs: In answer to your question, will you always be a contradiction? Probably. I don't know anyone who isn't. The Yin and the Yang.

I'm a Cancer, and I honestly can't be around many other Cancers. It takes a really special one for me to tolerate them. My birth chart is heavily dominated with fire signs, and I like that they have such theatrical personalities, but at the same time, I can't take them very long either.
Fire plus water can be an interesting combination. In one sense, you get steam. In another, you just get a doused fire. You're a Cancer, chances are, you'll always be in contradiction. Especially if you have a heavily dominated fire chart too. Our moods naturally change so much that it's hard for us to find a stable opinion, which is why I like Earth signs. Nice and grounded. Good balance. I agree though with the previous poster. Water does long-term damage. Fire is quick. And if you look at how each of the water and fire signs are, you can see that. Fire signs are usually quick tempered, quick to act, quick to judge. Everything is a rush. Not so much with water signs. We wait. We hold long time grudges, hold onto long time loves, and live in eras long, long ago.
In your chart, you just have to find that proper balance, which can be hard. I haven't even quite found it yet!

Go beyond the elements and get a natal chart done. This really gives a detailed map of the one and only you. Then consider the planets as they're continually moving and how these changing energies influence us also.
